Feel Good Friday is BACK!!…again…
A couple of weeks ago, I fell asleep on the couch watching Sportscenter and was awakened at about 3 o’clock in the morning to my daughter standing next to my head saying, “Daddy, my shirt got wet.” As I managed to peel my eyes open, I noticed that her shirt was, indeed, wet. In fact, her whole head was wet from the puke dripping off of it. She had a sleep barf after she apparently ate an entire watermelon. As it was caked into her hair and all over the side of her face, her concern about a wet shirt seemed to me to be a bit of an understatement and certainly the least of her problems, and mine as it turned out, being the late night cleaner-upper. This episode resonated a bit with me as I witnessed my typically selfish self find a higher place and take care of my daughter. This occurred a day before our scheduled Memorial Day vacation, a weekend I long for all year. However, all plans were on hold waiting for my girl’s recovery and I was actually fine with it. All I wanted was for her to feel better. I forgot my own powerful interests and resigned myself to missing my favorite weekend and I was genuinely ok with that. Thankfully, higher powers intervened and she got better quickly and the weekend was saved, and don’t get me wrong, I am usually a pretty good dad anyway and this was not a shock to me that I would put my daughter’s health before my beer-drinking, BBQ-eating weekend. I just happened to recognize and was a bit surprised at how easy a choice it was for me to put my interests last. It brought to mind an iceberg, in that the vast majority of its mass is unseen and unknown. Much like icebergs the depth of our personalities and characters rarely reveal themselves, but occasionally little reminders pop up that give us a brief glance into our own possibilities. Our own magic is often unseen and overlooked, especially by us. We casually stroll through our days largely unchallenged and thus unaware of our potential, while some of our best stuff lies hidden beneath the surface of our daily ordinaries. This FGF trust that you have magnificence lurking and greatness waiting for its chance to rise to the surface. Enjoy all of it!! –Dave
